Facebook itself is becoming the next gaming platform. With more and more games being created and released just for facebook, will it surpass the iPhone as the newest gaming platform? Or does it have
the chance to stand on par with the Playstation 3 or XBOX 360?
During my focus group one of the participants specifically stated that besides staying in touch with friends, the biggest reason why she gets on Facebook so much
is just for the games. The biggest draw for these games is that they all can be played for free. Though this may be hindered by the drama going on between Facebook and web game developer Zynga. The issue was that Facebook wanted to introduce "Facebook credits" (a currency system) into all the games Zynga has on the site in order to gain some more revenue, rather than allowing players to buy game credits from the developers. Personally I'm against Facebook trying to implement this new system because I refuse to pay for credits for a game that are not really necessary for to enjoy the game. If facebook wants more money, then just stay with charging people for ad space. If users get hit with fees from Facebook in any particular manner, then people will leave.
